Albert Byrd

With deepest and profound sympathy, G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Mr. Albert Byrd who entered into rest July 16, 2026.

Mr. Byrd, a native of Edgefield County, was a 1967 graduate of W. E. Parker High School and a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church.

He was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps where he was the recipient of several Military Honors & Awards: Purple Heart, Combat Action Ribbon, Good Conduct Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Vietnamese Service Medal, & Vietnamese Campaign Medal.

He was employed with Wackenhut Security for 25 years at Savannah River Site. For a time, he served on the Special Response Swat Team. Mr. Byrd was also a Trumpet player for the "Carolina Playboys" Band.

Survivors include his son, George (Simone) Byrd; a sister, Freda Mosley; grandson, Austin Byrd; a nephew that he considered to be his brother, Gerald (Betty) Byrd; Lifelong Friends, The Knight Family, Shirley Garvin, Velma Samuels and Calvin Hooper; a host of other loving relatives and friends.

The family wishes to offer special thanks to Wellstar MCG Cancer Center, Nuclear Care Partners, and Gentiva Hospice.

Viewing will be held from 12:00 PM until 8:00 PM Monday, July 27, 2026 at the funeral home. The family will receive guests from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM. Interment, with Military Honors, will take place at 2:00 PM Tuesday, July 28, 2026 at Fort Jackson National Cemetery.
