It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Deacon Wilbert Newman who entered into rest April 28, 2024.

Deacon Newman, a native of Aiken County, attended the Aiken County Public School System. He retired from Owens Corning-Aiken, SC. He was a member of Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church serving on the Deacon and Male Chorus Ministries.

Survivors include his wife, Lucy M. Newman; two sons, Rev. Wilbert A. (Phyllis) Newman, Jr. and Patrick C. Newman; a daughter, Yvonne "Debra" (Archie) Harden; two brothers, Dea. Harry (Margaret) Newman and Joseph (Winnie) Newman; sister-in-law, Hattie L. "Pat" Newman; eleven grandchildren, six great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Friday, May 3, 2024 at Mt. Zion Missionary Baptist Church, Jackson with the Rev. Paul H. Bush officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
