It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Ms. Eloise R. Matthews Sturgis who entered into rest February 15, 2024.

Ms. Sturgis was a 1955 graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School and a 1957 graduate of Luvenia's School of Cosmetology. She was a member of Hammond Grove Word Power Ministry.

Survivors include a daughter, Andrea (Ricky) Chishom; a son, Alvin Sturgis; a sister, Dealia Gwaltney; a brother, Henry (Denise) Mathis; sister-in-law, Helen Mathis; three grandchildren, Ricky Chishom, Jr., Shalonda Sturgis and Alvin Sturgis, Jr., five great grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 pm Friday, February 23, 2024 at Hammond Grove Word Power Ministry with the Rev. Dr. Bobby G. Hankerson officiating. Interment will follow in Hammond Grove Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2:00 pm to 5:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home.
