Obituary

G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Mrs. Essie B. Barnes who entered into rest November 21, 2025.

Mrs. Barnes, a native of Edgefield County, was a member of Springfield Missionary Baptist Church where she served as a Missionary and Pastor's Aide. She attended the public schools of Edgefield County. She returned to school later in life and earned her diploma in 1976 from Strom Thurmond High School.

Survivors include her husband, George Barnes; four daughters, Debra Johnson (Eddie McKive), Lenette Johnson, Frances Yeldell and Ann Callaham; a son, Kenneth W. (Trisha) Barnes; two sisters, Josephine (Johnnie) Gallman and Gussie Mays; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; six great-great-grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Tuesday, December 2, 2025 at Springfield Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. C. Moses Myers officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:30 PM Monday at the funeral home.
