Geneva J. Mathews Evans entered into eternal rest on April 20, 2026. She was born on March 25, 1941, in Aiken County, South Carolina, to Deacon Leroy Mathews and Lucille Johnson Mathews.
Geneva was educated in the Aiken County Public Schools and graduated from Jefferson High School in 1959 . She later worked as a nursing assistant at University Hospital, where she faithfully served for 28 years before retiring. Following her retirement, she continued her spirit of service by working several years with Elder Care Home Services.
At an early age, Geneva accepted Christ as her personal Savior and joined Second Providence Baptist Church, she also attended Pine Grove Baptist Church, where she continued to worship and fellowship.
On April 18, 1961, Geneva was united in holy matrimony to Pheolian Arthur Evans III. To this union two children were born, Pheneva and Pheolian A. Evans IV.
Geneva enjoyed caring for her yard, decorating the inside and outside of her home for the seasons, cooking her favorite recipes, and watching sports with her husband. She was known for her kind and gentle spirit, her love for family, and her special gifts in baking her “Sour Cream Pound Cake” and gardening. Geneva was always loving and supporting of her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister-in-law, Kathy Johnson Mathews and a brother-in-law, Joseph Coleman.
Geneva leaves to cherish her precious memories her loving and devoted husband, Pheolian A. Evans III; one daughter, Pheneva (Gilbert) Parker; one son, Pheolian (Jasmine) Evans IV; five grandchildren, Nicholas Parker, Natalie Parker, Brandon Anderson, Asia Walden, and Pheolian A. Evans V; two bonus granddaughters, Winter Robinson and Lauren Robinson; one great-grandson, Ethan Anderson; and four beloved fur-granddogs, Rum & Marty (deceased), Ernie, and Luca.
She also leaves to cherish her memory her sisters, Louise Key-Coleman, Evelyn (Terry) Evans, and Rev. Susan (Charles) Jones; one bonus sister, Audrey (Rev. Ronnie) Spry; brothers, George L. (Louvenia) Mathews, Rev. David A. (Rebecca) Mathews, Roney L. (Bettie) Mathews, and Kenneth L. (Sheila) Mathews; along with a host of nieces,nephews, cousins, other relatives, and many sorrowing friends.
Although Geneva has departed this earthly life, her love, kindness, faith, and beautiful spirit will forever remain in the hearts of all who knew and loved her.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, April 25, 2026 at Second Providence Baptist Church where the Rev., Dr. Albert M. James is the pastor and the Rev. David A. Mathews eulogist. Interment will follow at Second Providence Memorial Gardens. The will be NO PUBLIC VIEWING.
