George Lawrence Stephens

With deepest and profound sympathy, G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Mr. George L. Stephens who entered into rest October 1, 2026.

Mr. Stephens, a native of Augusta, GA, was a member of Mt. Canaan Baptist Church where he served in many capacities to include Deacon's Ministry, Sunday School Teacher, Ushers Ministry and Missions. He was also a dedicated volunteer at Edgefield County Churches Helping Others (E.C.C.H.O.) He was a veteran of the United States Army.

Survivors include his wife, Diane Diggs Smith Stephens; a son, John Delphie (Robin) Smith of Murrieta, CA; a sister, Annie Pearl Fuller; four grandchildren, Jeremiah, John, Josiah and Joel Smith; niece, Denita Chapman; nephew, Glentavious Moss; a host of other loving cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Friday, October 9, 2026 at Mt. Canaan Baptist Church with the Rev. David Mason, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow in the Mt. Canaan Burial Society Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 3:00 PM until 6:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
