August 8, 1937 – December 3, 2024
With deepest and profound sympathy, we announce the transition of Rev. James R. "J. R." Hooper who entered into rest December 3, 2024.
Rev. Hooper, a native of Edgefield County, was a member and Son of the House at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. He retired from the Edgefield County Public Schools as a Brick Mason Instructor.
Survivors include his loving wife of 66 years, Camilla Strom Hooper, daughters, Sheryl (Stanley) Barnes, Angie (Eddie) Webb, Terri Hooper, Janet (Steven) Hardy, Alyce Hooper and Laverne Brown; 10 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; sisters, Mary Elizabeth Lanham and Delores Hooper; brother, Robert Landrum; a host of nieces, nephews, other loving relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 1:00 PM Monday, December 9, 2024 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where the Rev. Oscar W. Brown is the pastor and the Rev. Willie Patten, Jr. eulogist. Interment will follow at Sunset Gardens Memorial Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM Sunday at the funeral home.
