It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mrs. Joan Cooks McKinney who entered into rest July 22, 2024.

Mrs. McKinney was a 1958 graduate of Lucy C. Laney High School. She retired from University Hospital as a Scheduling Clerk. She was a member of Second Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include two sons, Earl (Kioka) McKinney, Jr., and Brian McKinney; two daughters, Avis McKinney Johnson and Wanda (Karlos) Birt; three brothers, Elester (Dirine) Cooks, Ray (Laura) Cooks, Jr., and Thomas (Florence) Cooks; two sisters, Christine Lyons and Gloria Cooks; brother-in-law, Charles McKinnie; eight grandchildren, three great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12 pm Saturday, July 27, 2024 at Second Providence Baptist Church with the Rev. Dr. Albert M. James officiating. Interment will following in Cedar Grove Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2 pm to 5:30 pm Friday at the funeral home.
