It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mattie Mae Hillary who entered into rest June 11, 2025.

Ms. Hillary was educated in the Edgefield County Public School System. She was a member of Old Piney Grove Baptist Church where she served on the Gospel Choir.

Left to cherish her memory are two beloved sons, Desmon S. Smith and Jayceon Smith Hillary; three treasured grandchildren, Desmon Stephawn Smith, Jr., Sebastian Amari Cree Smith and Amaya Imani Smith; seven devoted brothers, Robert Hillary, Joseph (Carrie) Hillary, Rufus (Mary) Hillary, Alex Hillary, Peter (Margie) Hillary, Isaac Hillary and Ira (Cassandra) Hillary; two dear sisters, Martha Hillary Lee, Justine Hillary; and chosen sister, Shirley Mitchem; godbrother, Fitzgerald Ryans, a devoted nephew, Derrick J. Rouse; a host of cherished nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 11 am Tuesday, June 17, 2025 at Old Piney Grove Baptist Church with Minister Sandra Hillary Cooper officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2:00 pm until 5:30 pm Monday at the funeral home.
