G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Mr. Ray Cooks, Jr. who entered into rest peacefully at his home on January 4, 2026.

Mr. Cooks was a devoted husband, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He will be remembered for his warmth, generosity and dedication to his family, friends and community. Mr. Cooks was a native of Aiken County and a graduate of Schofield High School. He was a Retired Veteran of the United States Navy and a member of Second Providence Baptist Church.

Survivors include a devoted wife, Laura Cooks; a devoted niece and caregiver, Tiffany Birt; grandchildren, Vivica, Varen and Kiersten; devoted sisters, Gloria Cooks and Christine Cooks Lyons; a devoted brother, Thomas Cooks; three sisters-in-law, Sadie Cooks Harris, Dirine Cooks and Eleanor Bright Williams; a host of other nieces, nephews, relatives, church family and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Second Providence Baptist Church with the Rev., Dr. Albert M. James officiating. Interment will follow in Second Providence Memorial Gardens. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
