Viola (Broadwater)
Brightharp
May 18, 1924 – February 6, 2021
It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mrs. Viola B. Brightharp, widow of the late Reverend Robert Brightharp, Sr. who entered into eternal rest peacefully on Saturday, February 6, 2021.
She was born on May 18, 1924, in Modoc, SC to the late Charlie Broadwater, Jr., and Mary Brisco Broadwater.
Viola received her education from schools in Modoc, and North Augusta, SC where she and her sisters were great basketball players. She had a special gift and keen insight in helping children. In addition to joyfully raising eight children of her own, she lent a guiding hand with grandchildren, great-grandchildren and many children of relatives and friends.
Viola was strong in her faith, a loving, caring Christian who always shared her wisdom. She had a special gift for singing and sang on choirs at each church her husband pastored.
In addition to her parents and husband, she is preceded in death by all her siblings (13); one son, Jesse Brightharp, four grandchildren, James Fitzgerald Reynolds, Herlaine Reynolds Counts, Darius Hightower, and Jessica Brighthop; one great-grandchild, Antonio Counts, and one daughter-in-law, Mary Turner Brightharp.
Survivors include her children, Robert (Katie) Brighthop, Jr., Blanche Brightharp Reynolds, Rev. Dr. Sallie Brightharp (Calvin "Leon") Cooks, Revs. Drs. John R. (Brenda) Brightharp, Charles Brightharp, Beverly Brighthop, and Phoebe Brightharp (Deon) Dunbar; 29 grandchildren, 48 great-grandchildren, 12 great great grandchildren, nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
A memorial of her life will be conducted 12:00 noon Saturday, February 13, 2021 on Mount Canaan Baptist Church Campus Grounds with the Rev. George L. Brightharp officiating. Viewing will take place Friday from 2:00 pm - 6:00 pm at the funeral home.
The family regrets that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, no home visitation will be held. We ask all guests and family members attending the viewing and service to practice social distancing and if medically able, wear a mask.
Professional Services are under the care of G. L. Brightharp & Sons Mortuary-North Augusta.
