G. L. Brightharp & Sons announces the transition of Mr. William A. Simmons who entered into rest January 1, 2026.

Mr. Simmons, a native of Richmond County, resided in Columbus, GA.

Survivors include two daughters, Miriam Simmons and Jasmine Breeland; three sons, Daequan Simmons, William Simmons, Jr. and Tabias Thomas; his mother, Terrie Simmons; his father, William (Shirley) Coates; his fiancee, Andrea Nix; six sisters, Lawanda Simmons, Annette Simmons, Tasha S. Washington, Nicole (Localzo) Hooks, Shaquana Coates and Shantrail Coates; a stepsister, Shanita Merriweather; two grandchildren; a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, January 10, 2026 at Friendship Baptist Church (Richland Ave.) where the Rev. T. C. Edwards is the pastor and Bishop Darrell Butler eulogist. Interment will follow in Pine Lawn Cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
