Addie Hymon Obituary

It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mrs. Addie M. Hymon who entered into rest May 21, 2022 at Gibson Healthcare and Rehabilitation.

Addie May (Gill) Hymon was born on July 14, 1941 in Aiken, South Carolina to the late Harry and Marie (Copeland) Gill.

Addie came to know the Lord at an early age and joined the Montmorenci Missionary Baptist Church in Aiken. She attended Oakwood Elementary School and Schofield High School.   In 1958, she relocated to Hackensack, New Jersey where she met, and later married, Donald M. Hymon.  While living in Hackensack she became a member of Trinity Baptist Church, where she was active on the Flower Club, the Trustee Ministry and the Trinity Education Action Movement Ministry (known as T.E.A.M.).

She was employed as a domestic worker, but was most proud of her position as a butcher at Custom Meats of Maywood, New Jersey.

She enjoyed cooking and baking – particularly her infamous red velvet and chocolate cakes for her son and grandson, getting manicures, shopping for the latest fashions – including church lady hats and doing Zumba in her later years.

She leaves to cherish and celebrate her life, her son, Ricky L. (Gaye) Hymon of Framingham, MA, a granddaughter, Jasmine (Michael) Battle of Raleigh, NC, a grandson, Darren E. Hymon of Washington, DC, three sisters, Rosa Lee Robinson and Lillie May Rosser-Satterwhite both of Aiken, SC, and Carrie Bell (Thomas) Davis of Philadelphia, PA,  three sisters-in-law, Laura Hayes of Warrenton, NC, Joyce Faye Alston of Irvington, NJ, Gloria Hymon of Newark, NJ, five goddaughters, Gayle Little, Josie Rivers, Denise Sanders, Shannon Hymon and Shayla Crawford-Hymon.  A host of cousins, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.  Addie and Donald lovingly opened their home to several family and extended family members whom they raised like their own including Karen Gilmore, Annette and Anita Gilmore, Linda Aka, Rochelle and Charles Gill.

Addie was predeceased by her husband, Donald M. Hymon, a daughter, Charlotte A. Hymon, a brother, Luther Gill, and three sisters, Daisy Stallings, Betty Wilson and Hattie Hymon Crawford.

Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, May 28, 2022 at Montmorenci Missionary Baptist Church with the Rev. Wilbert A. Newman, Jr. officiating.
