It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mr. Charles Brightharp who died peacefully Friday, March 5, 2021 at home after an extended illness.
He was born on November 5, 1952 to the late Rev. Robert Brightharp, Sr. and the late Viola Broadwater Brightharp.
On July 1, 1974 he married the love of his life the late Mary Alice Turner Brightharp.
At an early age, he was baptized at Mount Canaan Baptist Church, Trenton, South Carolina and served as a member of the Trustee Ministry.
He received his education in the Edgefield County Schools graduating from W. E. Parker High School in 1970. He attended Talladega College, Talladega, Alabama, and graduated with a Bachelor degree in History. Charles was employed at the Savannah River Site until his retirement in 2010.
Charles had an amazing sense of humor who loved the Lord, his family, his friends, and the outdoors, especially fishing and hunting.
In addition to his parents and beloved wife: he was preceded in death by his brother, Jesse Brightharp and son, Darius Hightower.
Survivors include his children, Charles Jamall (Irricca) Brightharp, Dr. Robert Rashad Brightharp, MD, Shayla Hightower, and Terrance Taipa (Shannon) Brightharp; two brothers, Robert (Katie) Brighthop, Jr., Revs. Drs. John R. (Brenda) Brightharp; four sisters, Blanche B. Reynolds, Rev. Dr. Sallie B. (Calvin "Leon") Cooks, Beverly Brighthop and Phoebe B. (Deon) Dunbar: sisters-in-law, Dorothy T. Dunn, Martha T. Williams, Dr. Myrtis Y. Brightharp-Walker, Linda Turner, and Elizabeth T. Wheeler; brothers-in-law, Willie J. (Janice) Turner, Robert (Gail) Turner, Jr., Calvin Turner and David Smith; 8 grandchildren, one great grandchild, and a host of other relatives and friends. A devoted friend, Ruby B. Cain.
A memorial of his life will be conducted at 12 noon Thursday, March 11, 2021, on the Mount Canaan Baptist Church Campus Grounds of which the Rev. George L. Brightharp pastor and the Rev., Dr. John R. Brightharp officiating. A viewing will held from 2:00-6:00 pm Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at the funeral home. The service will be live-streamed via Michael Newton, Jr.'s Facebook Page.
All guests and family members attending the viewing and services are asked to practice social distancing and if medically able, wear a mask.
