It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mr. Charlie Grasty, Jr. who entered into eternal rest Saturday, March 13, 2021 at his residence.
Mr. Grasty was born December 18, 1922 in Java, Virgina (Pittsylvania County) to the late
Charlie Brady Grasty and Virginia Womack Grasty (first wife) and raised by Willie Ann Grasty (second Wife.)
He was educated in the Danville Virginia School System and married the late Mary Elizabeth Younger Grasty.He moved to Chester, PA in the early 1950’s and worked as a construction worker and supervised many projects for various construction companies. He was the last and oldest member of the Local 413 Union of his age group in Chester, PA.
Charlie was a devoted Member and Deacon at True Way Church in Philadelphia, PA. He was musically talented, played the guitar and harmonica, and sang in the choir. Charlie enjoyed gardening and many outdoor activities, and he was an excellent cook.
He was predeceased by a son, Devon Grasty (Maggie); three brothers, Edmond Grasty, Robert Grasty, and Willie Grasty; and four sisters, Mary Grasty, Patsey Grasty, Christine Grasty, and Clara Jeffries
He will be sadly missed by his sister, Louise Motley; sons, George Grasty (Martha), Herman Grasty (Lillian), Kermit (Lynn), Terrance Grasty, David (Pamela), and William Grasty; daughters, Dorthy Bush (Leroy), Virginia Mosley, Doretha Dunston (Albert), Joan Grasty-Roberts, Gwendolyn Long (Everett), Carrie Myers (Harry), and Tabitha Maggard (James); 36 Grandchildren, 32 Great-Grandchildren, 19 Great-Great-Grandchildren, two Great-Great-Great-Grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, uncles, and cousins.
A Private Memorial Service will be held for family members only.
