God envisions his children as precious gems. Like these stones, our lives are filled with many hardships and changes, which in the end, beautify us. During the early morning hours of October 31, 2023, God decided that Deborah Williams Heller had become a perfect stone, and he wanted her for his own. Deborah Williams Heller, 67, of 193 Spring Oak Lane, North Augusta, South Carolina entered her Master’s Kingdom. The world lost a devoted sister, aunt, and friend. Mrs. Heller was born on July 11, 1956 to Deacon Jesse James Williams and Helen Weaver Williams. She was the sixth born of nine children and the twin to her brother, Dennis Williams. In addition to her parents, Deborah was preceded in death by her brothers Zonnie and Dennis Williams and her sisters Diane Williams Robinson Warren and Sylvia Williams Minick.
As a young girl, Deborah joined the Bland Baptist Church in Johnston, SC. She was a 1974 honor graduate of Strom Thurmond High School, Edgefield, SC and was a member of Who’s Who Among American High School Students. Her pursuit of knowledge led her to the University of South Carolina, Columbia where she earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Business Administration. It was during her time at USC Columbia that Deborah crossed paths with the late Attorney Harrison Heller, III, who would later become the love of her life. In 1980, they joined in Holy matrimony. Despite facing personal challenges following the tragic loss of her husband Harrison, who passed away just after eleven months of marriage in a boating accident on Santee Lake, Deborah found solace in celebrating life with her cherished family and friends, whom she loved immeasurably. After graduating from college, Deborah started her professional career at Siebels Bruce Insurance Group and later continued working at J. B. White’s (now Dillard’s Department Store.)
She enjoyed providing quality care for her mom, including taking her mom to quilting club meetings with her cousins and friends, out to dinner at various restaurants, and bringing her to Bland Baptist Church for worship. Her love for her family, especially her young nieces and nephews was always evident in all that she did throughout her life. She was a quiet and diligent cultivator of God’s true garden, His people.
Mrs. Heller leaves cherished memories in the hearts of many people who loved her. She is survived by her sisters, Helen Evonne Williams-Fowler, Savannah, GA, Gloria Williams Allen, Aiken, SC, and Pamela Williams, Alameda, CA; two sisters-in-law, Attorney Leslie Heller (Alvin) Young and Patricia Heller (Daryl) Jackson; a brother-in-law, Jimmie Minick; her aunt, Valeria Daniels, Aiken, SC; and uncle, Williams Collins, Denmark, SC; a god-daughter, Aundrea Allen-Brown; and a host of cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, November 4, 2023 at Bland Baptist Church where the Rev., Dr. Willie Abney is the pastor and the Rev. Edward Lloyd eulogist. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:30 PM Friday at the funeral home.
