It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mrs. Ethel D. Johnson who entered into eternal rest Saturday, May 22, 2021 at The Ridge Rehabilitation and Healthcare.
Ethel D. Johnson was born January 15, 1936, the daughter of the late John Quincy Hooper and Elizabeth Chinn Hooper.
At an early age she accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior and joined the Pleasant Grove Baptist Church. Later she moved her church membership to the Republican Grove Baptist Church.
Ethel graduated from the Edgefield County Colored High School. She married Charlie David Johnson on March 24, 1964. They were married 43 years until his passing in 2007. They were blessed to raise one daughter, Beryl Henderson. They also helped raise three special great-nieces, Latoya Miles, LaKeisha Miles, and Brianna Oliphant.
Ethel worked for many years at Federal Pacific and Seawright Dry Cleaners until her retirement. Ethel’s house was always open to her nieces, nephews, and grandchildren. She always had a child with her when she traveled. Ethel was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to many. She will deeply be missed by family and those who knew and loved her.
She leaves to cherish her memory her daughter, Beryl (Calvin) Henderson of Edgefield, SC; a devoted sister, Ida Hooper of Edgefield, SC; four grandchildren, Riccardo (Rhonda) Moore of Columbia, SC, Rhonda Moore of North Augusta, SC, Kristol Johnson of Saluda, SC, and Christopher Henderson of Edgefield, SC; nieces, Geraldine Miles, Pamela Irving, Parthenia Young, and Corinthian Martin; nephews, Calvin Hooper, Leroy Johnson, and Vernoy Hooper; five great-grandchildren, Tre, London, Alori, Rylan, and Ryon; one great-great-grandson, Kamdyn; one aunt, Margie Gibson; one sister-in-law, Bertha Johnson of Edgefield, SC; one brother-in-law, Oscar (Pearl) Brooks of Edgefield, SC; and other loving family and friends.
Graveside services will be held at 11:00 AM Friday, May 28, 2021 at Republican Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Willie Patten, Jr. officiating. Mask and Social Distancing will be observed. Viewing will be held from 2:00 PM until 5:00 PM Thursday at the funeral home.
