It is with deep and profound sympathy that we announce the transition of Mrs. Yolanda G. Gartrell who entered into rest October 7, 2021 at Aiken Regional Medical Centers.
Mrs. Gartrell was the daughter of the late Mildred McManus and Saul Wallace. Yolanda was born in Brooklyn, NY.
Her education began in the public schools of New York. Later she moved to Edgefield, SC and attended Strom Thurmond High School.
She was a homemaker and caregiver. Yolanda enjoyed cooking for her family and helping others. She raised many children that were not her own. She loved getting together with family and friends. At family gatherings, Yolanda kept everyone laughing. She never met a stranger and always made others feel welcome.
She leaves behind, her husband, Robert Gartrell, Sr.; one sister, Denise (Randy) Gartrell of Trenton, SC; two brothers, Christopher (Cheryl) Wallace of Aiken, SC and Devone McManus of New Orleans, LA; two step-grandsons of the home, Jabari Gartrell and Jamie Riley; eight step-children; Ruby N. Gartrell of Aiken, SC, Robert Gartrell, Jr., LaShonda Gartrell, Angela Gartrell all of Edgefield, SC, Justin Gartrell of Johnston, SC, Megail Thurmond, Jodey Thurmond, and Leon Douse all of Columbia, SC; mother-in-law, Ruby C. Gartrell of Covington, GA; two nieces, Shatara Cave and Kristine Wallace both of Aiken, SC; three nephews, Garrick Campbell of Columbia, SC, Korey Wallace, and Christopher Wallace, Jr. both of Aiken, SC; four aunts, Alberta Williams, Arrie Lee (Sterling) Joseph, Deborah McManus all of Aiken, SC, and Patricia McManus of Brooklyn, NY; three sisters-in-law, Annie (David) Johnson, Peggie Mickens of Aiken, SC, and Angela (Leo) Johnson of Covington, GA; four brothers-in-law, James Gartrell of Covington, GA, Larry (Valorie) Gartrell of Trenton, SC, David (Sandra) Gartrell of Conyers, GA, and Terry (Kesha) Gartrell of Stone Mountain, GA; a host of cousins, other nieces, nephews, and sorrowing friends.
Graveside services will be held at 12:00 PM Saturday, October 16, 2021 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church with Elder Davis Johnson officiating.
